'Nearby' is the number we trust most, and check least
Open any dating app and the first thing you read after a face is a distance: 2 miles away, 500 metres away, active now. It feels like a fact: a small, precise, reassuring number that says this is real, this is close, this could actually happen tonight. It's also the number almost nobody questions.
Which is strange, because it's a guess. The distance on a dating app isn't a measurement of where someone is right now: it's an estimate built from a location reading that might be coarse, cached, or deliberately set somewhere else. The three ways 'nearby' lies

That's the bar worth holding apps to. Not 'how close does it say they are', but 'can it prove they're actually here'. When meeting tonight is the point, confirmed beats nearby every time, and confirmed is the only kind of accuracy that ever mattered.
