Profiles turn meeting people into an audition and push the decision onto appearance; in-app chat reliably becomes a substitute for meeting rather than a route to it. Everl replaces both with presence: you are simply someone nearby who is up for the same thing right now, and the app's job ends when it has walked you to a public place to meet. That design suits people who are better in person than in an inbox, and suits badly anyone who wants to vet someone thoroughly in writing first.
A profile asks you to compress yourself into a few photos and a joke, then asks a stranger to judge that compression. It rewards photogenic people and punishes everyone else, and it means the first decision anyone makes about you is made on a screen, on the wrong information.
Removing it changes what you are matched on. Not a curated highlight reel, but the moment: what you are both up for, right now, within a short walk. It also means there is nothing to maintain, nothing to screenshot, and nothing left behind after you close the app.
This is the choice people question most, so it is worth being direct about the trade-off. The honest cost is that you learn less about someone before you are standing in front of them. Everl's answer is that the meeting is public, brief by default, and entirely optional at every point, so the information you would have gathered over a fortnight of texting you gather in the first five minutes instead. That is a real trade, and some people will not want to make it.
Nothing happens on Everl without a mutual yes. Until then you are an anonymous presence, not a name or a face, and your presence disappears when you leave. Everl also confirms over Bluetooth that two people are genuinely in the same place, to the last few metres, rather than trusting GPS. That is the one guarantee the design is built around: if it says you are together, you are together.
If you want to read someone's writing for a week before meeting, or you want to filter by height, job or star sign, or you want a long-distance match you can text for a month, Everl is the wrong app and one of the profile-based ones will serve you better. It is also 18+ and city-by-city, so if your city has not opened yet there is nothing to use today beyond a waitlist.

Meeting people is free: joining, being seen nearby, matching and meeting someone in person cost nothing, one meet at a time. Everl+ is optional and adds running several at once, wider reach and planning ahead.
